BIO
Sandra Fettingis is a full time artist focused on designing timeless, site-specific patterns for national public art projects. Blending art with both built and natural environments in her murals and sculptural installations, Sandra carefully examines locations and project goals to achieve a harmonious and purposeful integration. Inspired by the harmonies of plant life and architecture, her practice conveys themes of personal and community growth, emphasizing the importance of connection through dynamic yet meditative patterns, with sensitive attention to detail.
Born in Chicago to South American artist parents, Sandra pursued her education at the Art Center College of Design, earning a BA from Columbia College Chicago. Currently based in Denver, CO, Sandra's roots in Chicago and a multicultural family instilled a deep-seated interest in pattern, architecture, and street art, significantly influencing her perspective and artistic approach today. Since her debut mural in Chicago in 2007, Sandra has crafted over 80 large-scale artworks, gaining recognition for her award-winning installation, "I Know You Know That I Know," in 2014 at the Colorado Convention Center that propelled her career.
Her diverse portfolio encompasses large-scale murals, glass windscreens for RTD’s A and EFR Lines, a four-story integrated LED and aluminum wall sculpture for Denizen Denver, and a 24’ suspended lit metal installation for the Food & Agriculture Building on the CSU Spur Campus in Denver, CO. Sandra's work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, featured in prestigious publications, and recognized with grants from the City of Chicago and Denver. As an alumna of RedLine, Denver’s artist residency program, she collaborates with a diverse network to expand her projects creatively and professionally.
Committed to pushing creative boundaries, Sandra engages in experiments with new materials, undertakes projects beyond Colorado, and advances the visual language of abstraction through geometric minimalism. Rooted in clean, enduring design, her handcrafted geometric patterns employ repetition and organic elements, symbolizing plant life as metaphors for personal and communal growth and connection. With linework referencing architecture, Sandra envisions her viewers discovering moments of calm and meaningful solace through her work, fostering a deeper appreciation of pattern and meaningful connection in both human and natural realms.
